The Flute Sweet & Tickletoon Times ... Summer 2009

“Music is one of the ways we make sense of our lives, one of the ways in which we express feelings when we have no words, a way for us to understand things with our hearts when we cannot with our minds.”
Dr. Karl Paulnack, director of the Boston Conservatory’s Music Division

Oh my darling! Oh my darling! Oh my darling San Francisco!!!
Flute Sweet & Tickletoon love San Francisco and fortunately for us San Francisco loves us right back! On the 4th of June we’re heading to our favorite city (other than our own Big Apple) to begin the 2009 Bay Area Tour, but before we do even one single performance, we’re making a new CD! “Little Kids Little Songs” will include all the songs in the show and more. Of course we consider ourselves very lucky because we’re going to be working with a new producer. A fellow by the name of Bob Bralove, who has worked with the likes of both “The Grateful Dead” and Stevie Wonder! Wowie Zowie! The new “Little Kids Little Songs” CD is being released this fall.

The Hub of Power
In July we’re traveling some more. First we’ll be in the Washington DC area (hopefully we’ll catch a glimpse of the Obama’s) then to Hartford County in Connecticut and finally back to the New York Metropolitan area. Our schedule is available directly below this post.

No Harmonization without Representation
We are very fortunate to have discovered and been discovered by a new manager! Robert Baird of Baird Artists Management will be representing us for all our children’s programs throughout the US, Canada and Europe! Find our more about Robert and his other wonderful artists at www.Bairdartists.com. We're thrilled to be working with this fine agency. We’re also happily working with the wonderful Alexis Booher, of Bumblebee Artists, who now concentrates solely on “Now We Can Sing", our concert program about immigration and transcending difficult times. You can still reach her at www.bumblebeeartists.com.

“The Fund for Schools & Libraries with no Funding”
Children need all the music, theatre and art they can experience and these challenging financial times have been quite difficult for presenters of the arts, especially schools and libraries. For this reason Flute Sweet & Tickletoon have launched "The Fund for Schools and Libraries with No Funding” This fund is making it possible for us to contribute our services to venues with little or no money, so that the children in these underfunded areas aren't without music and theatre. If you would like to be a part of this wonderful program and lend your support contact us at FluteSweetandTickletoon@gmail.com.

All funding is done through Rakeiho Musical Offerings: a not-for-profit organization.

Mini-Money
We know that most people want to make a difference and that most everybody strives to be generous at heart. However, not everybody is a large philanthropic organization! That is why in addition to all our other activities we are holding a series of micro fund-raisers. What are they you may ask? Micro fund-raisers are held in the homes of friends and fans. Each host invites a small group of friends who pay a small admission (ten to twenty dollars). Flute Sweet & Tickletoon will inform, while they perform and enlighten the attendees about many valuable and worthwhile projects. The money goes to fund "The Fund for Schools and Libraries without Funding", as well as new film and TV projects. We are in the midst of completing the screenplay for our animated version of Green Golly & Her Golden Flute. Stay tuned for updates on these exciting ventures!

Micro funders become part of our special friends and will receive tickets, CD's and DVD’s as they are available!! If you would like to host a micro fund-raiser please let us know!

Wishing you a wonderful, joyous, healthy, music and artful summer!

The Tugboat Times ... Winter 2009

“It’s easy to love on a perfect summer day
When the sky is blue and sunny
It’s not so easy when it’s cold and gray
And there isn’t any heat
And you haven’t any food
And you’re running out of friends and money
It really isn’t fun or funny …”
From Green Golly & the Treasure of Light by Keith Torgan

2008 is disappearing and although 2009 may not be the easiest of beginnings it certainly is a time for love, light and creativity. We wish you all of these things and more. Here’s to the challenge.

Where We’ve Been …
October saw the premiere of Green Golly and her Golden Flute for symphony with the Oakland Civic Orchestra in California. It was wonderful performing with the orchestra for a huge audience of excited children and parents. As always we had a delightful time performing all of the 21 performances throughout the Bay Area.

November and December’s schedule brought us back to New York where we performed and revised our holiday sequel to “Green Golly & Her Golden Flute”, "Green Golly and the Treasure of Light".

Where we’re going …
Come January we'll be on the road again, first to Cleveland, where we’ll appear in the International Performing Arts for Youth Conference aka IPAY. We’ll be Spotlighting our pre-school show "Little Kids Little Songs" to hundreds of presenters who are on the lookout for great programs for children and families. If you’re there you can catch us on Friday January 23rd at 9:45 PM. Our wonderful representative, Alexis, will be in booth number 33. We'll also be on the conference floor of APAP at the Hilton Hotel in NYC from January ninth through the thirteenth. Visit us at the Bumblebee Artists Booth!

Escape from New York …
Hello to three weeks of performances in sunny, warm Florida. Hooray! We’re premiering a special addition of Little Kids Little Songs at the prestigious Adrienne Arsht Center (formerly the Miami Performing Arts Center) in Miami on February 7th at 11:00 AM.

We actually have a whole slew of performances in Florida including the premiere of Keith's new solo show for grown-ups, "I Got out of Bed! Now What?" If you happen to be in South Florida for Valentines Day you can see him at the John Knox Village in Pompano Beach. Now don’t be too concerned we’re planning lots of R&R on the beach too!!

…and back again
For those of you planning to stay up north you’ll be able to see Keith twice a month at the NYC Cabaret "Don't Tell Mama" beginning in February. It will be easier than ever to hear Keith's wonderful, witty original songs and stories!! Stay tuned for times and dates.

And since our hearts are there anyway …
March takes us back to San Francisco where we will be recording "Little Kids Little Songs". Randall Horton (Duke Ellington’s arranger for “Black, Brown & Beige) will be playing piano with us and collaborating on the arrangements, and Bob Bralove (who’s worked with both Stevie Wonder and The Grateful Dead) will be co-producing and engineering. We hope to have the new CD available to you by summertime.

Classical music, cabaret and history…
On Tuesday March 31st at 8 PM the full length version of "Now We Can Sing" will be onstage at the Rockland Jewish Community Center in Nyack, NY. Visit http://www.bumblebeeartists.com/ and click on the Tugboat Music link for a preview of the concert.

What’s New??
Other exciting projects in the works include a new internet television project and online flute lessons with master flutist Barbara Siesel.

The Green Golly Sedona Flute
Finding a fine instrument for your child is not an easy task. Barbara has teamed up with Jeffrey Weissman of Weissman Flutes to create a flute that has many of the qualities of a far more expensive instrument. This is a flute that your child will look forward to playing because it’s both beautiful and responsive. If you’re interested in owning one drop us an ‘e’ - we’ll be happy to arrange a demonstration.

^^^^^^
Please feel free to drop us a line or a squiggle or even an idea.
Have a wonderful holiday season and a joyous New Year.

“… when it’s holiday time
There is love in the air
And a feeling of friendship’s abounding.
When it’s holiday time
There is hope everywhere
And the goodness in the hearts
of the people on the earth
is astounding!”
From Green Golly & the Treasure of Light by Keith Torgan

Fall is Falling all around!!!

Friday, May 16, 2008

From the Redwood Forest to the Florida Palms!

"Little Kids Little Songs is the perfect toddler event ... pure magic! Barbara's amazing gold flute pushes the program from run of the mill into the stellar zone! [Their] charming costumes, disarming "shyness", right-on-target material, and easy rapport with the little ones is quite remarkable. The world needs more people like Flute Sweets & Tickletoons!"
Carolyn Potter Librarian, Fairfax Branch, Marin County Free Library

"Green Golly was great, thank you! Next time you see Aiden ask him to do an impersonation of the witch....it’s fabulous!"
Aiden's Mom West Palm Beach, Florida
